Preserving The Genius of Life ~ A Call to ACTION!

We have an unprecedented Opportunity To Preserve The Genius of Life right now!

There is one thing that keeps us from following our intuition and separates us from our own common sense.

Doubt.

If we have a doubt in our minds, our convictions can waiver often causing us to settle for far less than an ideal situation. Need a prime example? GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms).

GMOs mean that the DNA—or code of life—in a living thing has been manipulated to produce a desired result other than what nature originally intended.

The act of manipulating the code of life seems risky by nature. Very risky. Considering scientists are just learning the multitude of biological signals that turn our genes on and off, we can be certain in saying that we don’t even understand the code to begin with.

And now we are freely tampering with this genius using GMOs.

One would hope we would tread cautiously on such holy ground.

And yet we haven’t.

The safety studies and approval processes to allow GMO foods into our food supply have been insults to the intelligence of life itself.

When over 44,000 memos regarding the GMO approval process were made public in a lawsuit, it became obvious that scientists have recognized from the very beginning that GMOs were and are anything but safe.

However, nothing was done or initiated to regulate, mandate, or conduct further research on GMOs before releasing them into our food. Who is responsible? Big Agra? Our Government?

We have been constantly told that GMOs would save the world through an increase in crop yields, and better nutrient contents in foods.

However, years after the introduction of these foods, the claims have failed severely.

The Union of Concerned Scientists published the article Failure to Yield addressing the first promise, while Dr. Antoniou et al, have written an extensively referenced article entitled GMO Myths and Truths.” These articles systematically and scientifically debunk ALL of the so-called “benefits” touted by pro-GMO activists.

A brand new study from Seralini et al demonstrates, without a doubt, that GMO corn and the commonly used herbicide, Round-Up, can cause significant life threatening changes in animals. Male rats in the study had liver and kidney problems along with an increase in tumors, while 80% of the female rats had tumors of the breast. Animals fed either GMO feed, GMO feed with Round-Up residues, or Round-Up alone died more often and much earlier than the control animals.

This was no surprise to the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) who released a press advisory in 2009 warning against potential adverse health effects with the consumption of GMO foods. Dr. Dean from the AAEM states, “Multiple animal studies have shown that GM foods cause damage to various organ systems in the body. With this mounting evidence, it is imperative to have a moratorium on GM foods for the safety of our patients' and the public's health.”

No benefits. Big risks.

Still, here we are with many of us feeding unsafe food to our children on a daily basis. Unknowingly!

Although polls indicate that over 90% of citizens in the US would like to know if these harmful items are in the foods we are eating, they are currently NOT labeled and ARE present in the vast majority of processed foods, vitamin supplements, and body care products.

The time is now! If Proposition 37 passes in California, which would require GMO labeling for commonly sold foods, vitamins, and bodycare products on the shelves of our grocery stores, a cascade of events may lead to market conditions that would eventually make GMOs economically unviable. This would be a very good thing for life on the planet.

Even if you can’t participate in the California vote directly, you can have a huge impact by donating to efforts to promote the measure or by reaching out to others in California and encouraging their active participation.

It is time we stand up for what we innately know is right and just. In order to do that, we need to educate ourselves to a point that doubt has no room in our minds.

Consider attending the Seeds of Doubt conference  at the LAX Hilton in Los Angeles on October 6, 2012.

The world’s most prestigious authorities on Genetically Modified Organisms will be gathered in one room to eradicate any doubts on the subject of GMOs and food safety once and for all. Those at this live event will learn from:

Jeffrey Smith, author of the bestselling GMO books Seeds of Deception and Genetic Roulette, as well as the founder of ResponsibleTechnology.org. Jeffrey is arguably the most versed human on the planet regarding GMO information.

Dr. Don Huber, plant pathologist and professor emeritus from Purdue University has been studying plant pathogens for over 50 years and glyphosate (found in Round-Up) for over 20 years. Dr Huber was the author of a highly publicized warning letter to the Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack regarding safety concerns with the use GMO crops and Round-Up.

Dr. Michael Antoniou, Reader in Molecular Genetics, Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics, King’s College London School of Medicine. Amongst many accomplishments, Dr. Antoniou is a co-author of the most authoritative, and extensively referenced report on GMOS entitled “GMO Myths & Truths.”

Pr. Gilles-Eric Séralini, University of Caen. As the President of the Committee for Research & Independent Information on Genetic Engineering Scientific Council, Dr. Séralini is the co-author of a multitude of scientific papers regarding the health risk of GMOs including the recent paper in Food and Chemical Toxicology entitled “Long term toxicity of a Roundup herbicide and a Roundup-tolerant genetically modified maize.”

When you attend the Seeds of Doubt Conference at the LAX Hilton in Los Angeles on October 6, 2012 you will be in a community of other people who share your passion for this vitally important topic. The question and answer sessions, and opportunity to speak with these experts “one on one”, is a chance of a lifetime. For conference details click here

If you are unable to attend in person, do not hesitate to log onto the website the day of the event as I have the privilege to be the emcee for the live streaming portion of the conference which will be broadcast from the SeedsofDoubtConference.com homepage beginning at 9am Pacific Time on Oct 6th.

We are at a pivotal point in history. We need to learn what we can do to preserve the health of our children and the integrity of the natural world. Let's evolve by educating each other on a way of life that preserves our planet and humanity itself.

In health and happiness,

  2. Great article Ali. So glad you, and Tom, took the time to gather up all the resources and write it. This information needs to become more main stream. People SHOULD have the right to know what they are eating.

  3. Thank you for helping educate. It's so important that people understand what they are eating and how it effects our bodies. We can't rely on our government, grocery stores or the food industry to make sure things are safe. Educate yourselves everyone!

  4. Thank for you for sharing this. It is very upsetting that so much of us are in the dark and even more so that some choose to remain that way. Ignorance is not bliss at the end!

  7. Great post! It's SO important to get the word out about GMO's. Prop 37 is our best, and perhaps only, chance to get GMO's labeled in the US. I just sent in my (2nd) donation in support of Prop 37, even though I don't live in California! Now is the time to contribute and spread the word . . .

    Thanks again,

  8. Thanks for posting this. I agree ... it is important to be informed about the true nature of GMO's. Also Prop 37 can't be defeated by big ag. and other 'special interest' groups. Thank for bringing such an important issue to your blog!

  9. Matthew & Laura - I don't know of a place here in Bellingham that is GMO-free. We just don't go out to eat anymore. Occasionally we stop into the food co-op and get food to go, but that's it.

If we ever drive through Seattle we will stop into Thrive (near 65th st) and pick up food to go. They have a great variety of organic raw and vegan meals. There are organic restaurants throughout the country, but sadly not many.

Maybe someone will start up a GMO-free restaurant here eventually? :)
